”Konichiwa, ogenki desu ka?” The phrase is because I am part Japanese. My grandfather served in the Army and met my grandmother in Japan during WW II. They moved to the United States and soon after my grandfather passed away. With limited English and having four children to take care of, my grandmother moved the family to Oahu, Hawaii where there were a significant population of Japanese Americans. This is where my family grew and I grew up as child. My grandmother along with my parents instilled in me a hard work ethic, appreciation for life, and an enduring love for this country –
“America is a country where great things are possible, more than anywhere in the world.”
